By Our Insights Desk
Our monthly feature The India Box Office Report tracks the performance of the various films released every month at the Indian (domestic) box office. Monthly reports are published on this website in the third week of the following month. This is the February 2025 edition of the report. You can access the previous reports in the Insights section of this website.
Cumulative Box Office: February 2025
After a strong start in January 2025, the Indian box office sustained the momentum in February 2025, grossing ₹1,245 Cr at the domestic box office, including projected future collections of February releases still running in theatres. Hindi film Chhaava alone contributed 53% of the month’s box office. Only Hindi language box office for Chhaava have been considered in this report, since the film’s Telugu version was released in March 2025.
The cumulative box office for 2025 releases stands at ₹2,264 Cr, which is 39% higher than the same period in 2024. This has also been the highest-grossing February post-pandemic.
Top 10 Films
The chart below lists the top 10 films released in February 2025, based on their box office performance in India.
Chhaava has emerged as the top-grossing film of the month, grossing over ₹650 Cr, thereby becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time. The only other film to cross the ₹100 Cr mark in February 2025 is the Tamil film Dragon, which has emerged as a breakout hit, grossing even more than the big-budget Tamil film Vidaamuyarchi.
Re-releases continue to be a strong trend at the India box office, with Sanam Teri Kasam and Interstellar featuring in the list of the 10 highest-grossing films of this month.
With the addition of Thandel in February, there are currently four Telugu films in the list of the highest-grossing films of 2025 so far. The list features three films each from both Hindi & Tamil languages.
Language Share
For language share calculation, language-wise box office of films releasing in multiple languages is assigned to the corresponding language. However, for Hollywood, the data for all languages is reported under the language head ‘Hollywood’.
Owing to the performance of Chhaava, Hindi’s language share has jumped to 45% for Jan-Feb 2025, compared to 40% for the calendar year 2024.
How to read the numbers in this report?
Different language industries follow different reporting conventions (Gross, Nett or Share). We have used Gross Box Office as the unified measure for this report. For films releasing in multiple languages, collections are added up across languages to arrive at the film’s Gross Box Office at an all-India level.
Some films may be running in theatres at the time of publishing this report every month. For these films, Gross Box Office is estimated based on the latest trends available. Hence, it is normal that some numbers may be updated in the following month’s report, once actual collections have been estimated.
Numbers for a film are assigned to the month of its release, even if the business is spread over two or more months. For example, Kalki 2898 AD released on June 27, 2024, and a sizeable component of the film’s business was registered in July 2024. However, in the analysis, Kalki 2898 AD’s entire box office has been credited to the month of June.
